During a flight, the American chewing gum king Philipp Wrigley was asked by an accompanying journalist: ‘Tell me, Mr Wrigley, why don’t you stop your expensive advertising? The whole world is already buying your chewing gum and you could save a fortune in one fell swoop!’
Wrigley replies:
‘We’ve been at our flight altitude of 6,000 metres for some time now. Are you really suggesting that I go into the cockpit now and instruct the pilot to switch off the engines to save fuel?’
